Apple & Cinnamon Overnight Oats
Hi lovely people
It’s the beginning of the year and back-to-school craziness. If your house is anything like mine, it’s a big push to get everyone out the door in the morning.
This is one of my all-time favourite breakfasts and it’s super easy to prepare the night before. You can even eat it on the go while getting the kids ready for school.
Overnight oats is a no-cook method where raw oats are soaked in milk instead of being cooked.
You can use absolutely any milk that your heart desires. The raw oats are soaked in milk overnight, causing them to soften and absorb the milk.
Whether you love fruit, nuts or chocolate, you can add any combination of flavours to your overnight oats. They are all delicious!
I use a recycled glass jar to make overnight oats. Layer the ingredients, close the lid, and refrigerate overnight. Give it a try!
Ingredients
– 1/3 cup rolled oats
– 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
– 1/2 medium apple, diced (I prefer to leave the skin on but you can peel it if you prefer)
– 3/4 cup milk
– 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons honey
– 1/2 cup plain yogurt (optional, I like to use coconut yogurt)
– 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
Recipe
Layer all the ingredients in the glass jar. Give it a stir.
Seal the jar and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning give it another stir. Add extra milk/yoghurt depending on the consistency you prefer. Chai seeds will make it thicker.
Tip into a bowl and add any toppings. I like to add Granola.
Benefits of Oats
Oats are a nutritious and antioxidant-rich breakfast option that is high in fiber and has a low glycemic index.
Until next time
Love, Peta
