My Winter Skincare Wish List

winter skin

Creating a winter skincare wish list is a great way to ensure your skin stays healthy and hydrated during the colder months.

Focus on products that offer moisture, protection, and nourishment.

Skin dryness is influenced by the integrity of the skin’s barrier and the amount of oil present on the skin. A healthy skin barrier prevents Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) and protects the skin from external aggressors.

One of the best ways to protect skin from winter dryness and dehydration is by rewilding it with live probiotics.  Avoiding harmful chemicals and surfactants. As well as the unnecessary overuse of products like AHAs and retinol.

Rewilding involves returning the skin to its ‘wild’ state so that the skin can do what it has evolved to do – protect us.

The aim is to achieve skin that is sustainably healthy, resilient, and balanced.

Here are some of my favourite microbiome-friendly products for winter:

Cleansers

Cream Cleansers effectively remove impurities and makeup without stripping the skin’s natural oils. For those with dry or sensitive skin, Esse recommends cleansing once a day at night and simply splashing warm water on the skin in the morning. This routine helps to protect the skin’s natural oils.

Try: Esse Cream Cleanser or Sensitive Cleanser

Serums

Serums can be applied alone or in combination, depending on your desired results and the number of active ingredients you want to use. I prefer using 2 or more serums when applying my products. This allows me to address multiple skin concerns simultaneously.

Live probiotics on the skin help protect, slow ageing, reduce sensitivity, balance and maintain the skin’s pH.  As well as moisturise the skin by boosting natural hyaluronic acid production.

Try: Esse Probiotic Serum (with 1 billion live probiotic microbes)

Hyaluronic acid is one of the most effective anti-ageing ingredients in skincare. It reduces wrinkle depth while increasing skin hydration, firmness, and elasticity.

Oils

When selecting an oil, it’s essential to choose a lightweight product that mimics the skin’s natural oils (sebum). Sebum is vital for maintaining a healthy microbiome.

Try: Esse Repair Oil or Protect Oil

Masks

A moisturising cream mask will soothe dry, stressed skin while enhancing hydration and brightening the complexion.

Try: Esse Cream Mask

In conclusion, review your skincare products and adjust them slightly for winter. A small change can make a significant difference. What are your favourite winter products?

Much love, Peta
